A safe, clean, comfortable place to live is a basic human need, but one that many people struggle to secure for themselves and their families. Fortunately, in Auburn in Cayuga County, there are many resources to help improve homes or to secure places to stay for those who are homeless. Here's some additional information on the services most pertinent to families with children.
Homesite Development Corp. runs the federally subsidized Section 8 housing vochure program in Cayuga County, and offers many other services as well, including first-time homebuyer education classes.
Auburn Housing Authority runs the Section 8 program in the city.
The city of Auburn Housing Assistance Program offers mortage assistance to first-time homebuyers, as well as capital improvement grants and tax exemptions.
The Rescue Mission has been playing an increasingly large role in the County in providing transitional housing services to the homeless.
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) can dramatically lower your heating bills. You can sign up for the program at several locations, all listed here.
