Strong Families from the Start

ABC Cayuga has adopted a framework called Strengthening Families to help guide it in its work. The approach, developed by the Center for the Study of Social Policy, is evidence-based, meaning it uses data to determine what really does and does not work.
It's not at all essential to understand the approach to be a good parent or even to learn from the materials on this site. However, for those that wanted to know more, we thought we'd provide an overview.
At the heart of Strengthening Families are five protective factors that, when present in a family and community, help those families and communities thrive even in tough times. Those factors are:
- Parental resilience
- Social connections
- Concrete support in times of need
- Knowledge of parenting and child development
- Social and emotional competence of children
